Bows and crossbows...

How do you feel about these different weapons? If you have first hand experience with any or all of them, let's hear about it!

Who would like to start things off?

I have shot a bow and a crossbow, each only once, bow i hit nothing has in i suck. Crossbow at least the one I shot is very accurate at under 100m. so I would take it because at least I can hit something.

I'm on the fence. Though I haven't shot a bow in ages, I don't remember them being all that powerful. At the right range I think an arrow or bolt could penetrate a skull, but how much damage would it actually do?

I voted compound crossbows, I got almost zero experience with bows and I think crossbows are easier for the untrained hand.

If there are more than a few zed though you are in trouble. A crossbow isn't the fastest thing to reload.

Yeah but if you can't hit a single zed with a bow you screwed if there is just 1 zombie.

Crossbows are good has a wepaon of first resort. It ammo can be recoverd(keep zed kill ammo sepret from game killing) is not has load has a gun and a good one will easly put a shot through a skull.

Recurve, it's the only type I've handled. A second shot is much easier.

Always liked recurve bows, used to be pretty good with them even on the fly. Compound bows I couldn't get into though. While more powerful and easier to draw back after a certain point, I was just not comfortable at how the arrow release feels to me. Recurves just feel a lot smoother. At least hand made arrows can be used with recurves, but anything other than aluminum or graphite shafts will break with the compound bows.

As far as crossbows, I've only tried out a smaller pistol type one. While nice to hold that opening shot, follow up ones don't come too fast. I noticed the strings wore out considerably fast with this type, perhaps due to cheap manufacture. Those compound crossbows can get pretty powerful and can achieve a pretty decent range, wouldn't mind trying one out but they are verboten here. An experienced person with one under different conditions would be extremely dangerous.

I'd rather hit once than miss many.

Especially in a quiet fashion from a concealed position. ;)
