I am adamant that I am not going to have back surgery until I cannot stand it anymore.

Having back surgery was the best thing I ever did--without it I'm not sure I'd still be walking. But, I had a herniation, I am not sure what kind of back problem you have.

We walk the dogs about three miles a day, more if we have time and the weather permits. It's probably been hugely beneficial for my wife throughout the pregnancy. Between that and our diet she's gained very little excess weight and it will help her lose the weight again once Gavyn is born. It helps our Coonhound too, she was pretty chubby when we adopted her, and at 8 years old she's still pretty active. Our little dog often forces her to play quite a bit.

After I had back surgery, walking the dog was the only exercise I tolerated. It was good for both of us.

It is truly amazing how far I have come.
I started out unable to stand for more than a few minutes before it started hurting so bad I had to look for a place to sit.
I would carry a folding chair out with me to cut the grass.
I would cut a round or two and sit till my back eased off.
Then I got sick.
Then I got better.
Today I am in some ways stronger than when I was a young guy.

Has the exercise and weight loss helped your back considerably?
