I don't know how sharp they are / were but I was thinking some of the banded shields were sharp enough to do damage.

They can definitely smash in a skull, edge slams with the heavier shields do some nasty damage.

So, my Targe actually weighs out at 6 pounds even. That kind of weight concentrated to the edge in a smash attack would yield some serious kinetic energy. As an addition, I have thought of making this attachment:

Now we're talking putting that energy behind a thrusting or slashing attack!

Nice but nasty !

There is a chance of a 'pull-back', meaning the shield-stabbed zed might draw the shield away from you, exposing and pulling at your left side, knocking you off balance, therefore open to attack from that point.

Not the way I would be fighting, that is why you practice with what you've got. ;)

You'd do well to master short smashing or ramming blows with the shield. The kind that is in and out fast enough to avoid being grabbed but will knock an enemy away for a follow up strike with a blade or axe, or to give you time to step away and grab your pistol and take a shot.
