Grow Your Own

Postby LoneWolf » Wed Jun 25, 2014 6:24 am

Finally got greenhouse, coldframes, etc., built, ready to start learning how to grow my own veg, etc.

Got great books on the subject of greenhouse gardening, types of veg, etc., etc.

Downside is, plants always tend to die in my care.....so need to improve these skills bigtime, or the greenhouse will just end up becoming a small detached conservatory to sit in !

Carrots, onions and potatos are the easiest- you would be hard pressed to kill them off. Whatever else you might decide to grow, good luck and hopefully you will do ok!

I found it pretty simple to grow tomatoes, peppers, carrots, and any other turnip like root veg. Where we live now tomatoes are difficult because of the lack of light and heat. I'd like to get a Meyer lemon tree and blueberries as well.
What's the climate like LW?

I think growing just a few things is even a good idea, if anything thing it helps out a bitch on fresh grocery cost and health. I try to grow green onions and cilantro, I think it is called coriander for you EU members, and other little herbs and spices to add to the crap I am eating. Every bit helps, right?

Similar, but a bit different than cilantro. Cilantro tastes great as long as you don't use too much.

Start with some easy crops like beans, corn, potatoes, and peppers. Easy to grow and maintain in a fabricated environment.

Good luck.

I am not sure I know what Cilantro tastes like.
My wife says she hates the taste of it and complains when things have it in them.
I can't identify what it even when she says it is there.

If you've eaten salsa before, you've had it. Very similar in appearance to Italian parsley.

Maybe it's a good thing I can't identify the taste.
That way I can't bitch about it.
