What did you do this week? - Home edition

We have these for guns and gear, But nothing for preps to stay put. Might as well get one up.

This week, I picked up some canned food, some latex gloves, and ordered a Waterbob

The more and more I get into this kind of thing, the more I think that trying to get out straight off is just an elaborate form of suicide. Clogged up roads, panicked people, and overstressed police/NG units would be a very volatile mix. Seems like the best idea would be to lay low for a day or four and let things calm down before taking off - situation permitting, of course.
Never hit first. Always hit back.

A couple of days ago I picked up some more instant mash, minute rice, and soup mix.

I agree that laying low would be the best course of action in some situations. It would also depend on where you live. I live in a lower population area, but my house would not be easy to secure--too many windows and doors.

As for supplies, I recently acquired some expired suturing material--mostly non-absorbable--the other stuff starts to degrade too quickly once it is exposed to air. I also have latex gloves and two fairly well supplied first aid kits. For cooking, I have a single-burner stove which uses Butane canisters for fuel.

Not sure if this should go here or the "gear" edition, but the other day I made an alcohol stove out of a couple of aluminum beer bottles:
Image
Runs off of standard rubbing alcohol or methanol, (HEET brand gasoline "dryer").
Boiled a pint of water in about 5.5 minutes, total burn time on 2oz of alcohol was about 9-10minutes...
Enough to sterilize water or make some ramen/instant mash pots...
No toxic fumes so it's safe to burn indoors...
This was my 1st attempt and it came out pretty crude, will try again when I accrue a couple more bottles...

Pretty simple process, made easier if you have a shop press, (I dont, used the car jack and pressed it under my trailer hitch)
