Hurricane

Postby Bob » Sun Oct 09, 2016 5:17 am

Well another hurricane notch.
Hurricane Matthew was a giant pain.
I am going to have to work on my fence.
Two different sections are in need of repair now.
I came through much better than some though.
The tree in the front yard did not fall, the roof stayed on and so did the siding.
In fact the biggest problem I now face is a human one.
The stress of being inside and worrying about the damn hurricane has had my wife in a tizzy for a week.

It did get me to thinking what it would be like in the ZPOC.
With no weather service to warn us it would be really tough.
The hurricane would start like any other storm but would just not stop.
If you were on the road an abandoned car would be a tough place to weather a high magnitude storm.

Any thoughts on this?

The weather would play a big part in survival during a ZPOC. It would be safer to stay away from the coast, especially during hurricane season. Anyone without shelter would have a really hard time. Being wet for a long period of time could cause all sorts of health issues, including hypothermia and fungal infections. It would be like olden times--people dying from easily controlled or cured problems because medication was not readily available.

We will need a well-built fortress!

That's the "every disaster" rally point? It would take me a very long time to get there but I'd still give it a shot

It may not be but it is a decent choice.

They are children of the earth right?
Is that how they put it?
I can't remember if that is it or not I do remember it made me think of a movie I didn't see but remember the title of "Children of the Corn"

I have a disability that affects my mobility, so my goal is to get somewhere and stay put. Ideally it'll be somewhere with mild weather, far enough inland I won't be hammered too hard by hurricanes. I have family in Florida who lives in the panhandle on the gulf side, so they're rarely hit by the full brunt of a storm. Mostly they just shutter the windows and wait for the power to go out and come back on.
