Ricks Holster

Ricks Holster

I don't know about you but Ricks holster annoys the hell out of me.
It is a 4" holster with a 6" Python stuffed in it.

That is a good way to ruin the front sight.
Good thing he doesn't have to make any long shots with it.

Here is a link to the actual holster if you want to get one.

Is that what he carried at the beginning of the show? I can't remember if it was his duty gun or if he picked it up later. It could be that he had his duty rig minus the gun and grabbed the Python later. I'd have to go back to the beginning to know for sure. If he was using his duty rig because it's all he had for the Python then the mismatch would make sense.

I think he had this combo since the beginning. Perhaps he finds it easier to draw the pistol that way- speedier as well. It worked out ok at the barfight in town(S2). It could also interfere with sitting down without a pistol in it too between takes and such. Maybe the set armorer doesn't let him walk around carrying a pistol loaded with blanks all day!

Some old western pics show holsters with the barrels hanging down. Hell, even sword wielders have had simple rings or small leather loops to hold their blades. Not safe perhaps but expedient measures.

My carry holster is a cross between a belt slide and an IWB. I had to be sure the front sight wouldn't get stuck on the edge when drawing. It can be done, but Rick's sidearm has a huge front sight. Like bob said, it must erode that sight after a while, especially after a couple of years of constant usage.

I just checked the first episode. He has used that rig and gun since the beginning.
